Someone please explain...

Can someone please tell me what the white crosses in the trees are about? Not the crosses by the side of the road. Those I get. There was an accident. People died.

I'm referring to the white crosses that I see high in the trees on the edge of a woods. They are of varying sizes and just homemade crosses from scrap wood that have been painted white.

I asked a co-worker about trem and he says he's never seen them. It's one of those things that goes unnoticed until you see your first one. then you see them everywhere.

They are very ''Blair Witch'' ish and kind of freak me out. Are farmers trying to keep away evil?

I have searched online and come up empty. Does anyone have any ideas?

Lost Shoe Network

What is it with the single shoes by the side of the road? Were they thrown out? Accidentally dropped as someone dangled a foot out the window?
I have seen plenty of single shoes, but have never once seen how they got there.
They have a lost look, a lonely look. There is something particularly sad about a child's shoe. Was it thrown out in defiance? During a fight with a sibling?
I think we should form a Lost Shoe Network. As lonely shoes are spotted, a picture with directions on where the shoe is located could be posted. Unite Separated Pairs!

Not fair...

It's not looking as though we'll get to the fair this year. I know...sacrilege. There have been commitments every evening this week and the weekend is looking crazy.

The kids go back to school on Monday. YAY! They are mourning every passing day. I can hardly believe that it's here myself. The summer has flown by.

Shuttle...

The shuttle landed safely- thank God. I held my breath watching the morning coverage of it. I was watching live during the last two disasters and they were horrific. I can't even imagine being on the shuttle or being a family member on the ground waiting for this one to land safely.

On a lighter note, during the TV coverage, the woman broadcaster said," It is now 55 after the hour. Coming up in a little more than a minute it will be 56 after."

I kid you not.

Adventureland...

The annual company picnic was held on Saturday. This year it was at Adventureland, a local amusement park. It was a beautiful day and the kids had a great time.

The people you see at a place like that! I'm no beauty queen, but pulease! Yes, it was warm, but people had things hanging out that shouldn't see the light of day!

We have a family codeword now for just such sights. We started out the day by saying,"Nobody should have to see that." By the end of the day. we just said, "Nobody."

Another new addiction...

Google Earth OMG. This makes Google maps look like it was developed by a kindergartener. It is a space and resource hog, but so worth it. Dial-up users beware.
